Final Standings

More analysis possibly to come at such a time when I am not suppose to be gainfully employed...
This year's overall winner is Larry F, with a strategy quite different then last year's overall winner... Larry did decently in all four brackets to pull out the win over Will S.
Kyle M. pulled off the remarkable feat of finishing third overall while only filling out the NCAA bracket... Kyle as is obvious won the NCAA bracket of this year's competition.
Danny O wrapped up the NIT bracket of this year's challenge, with Cara VD and Will S. the winners of the CBI and CIT, respectively.
I would like to thank everyone for their participation in The Second Annual Osterhout/Van Doren Super Duper March Madness NCAA/NIT/CBI/CI Bracket Challenge... For the Cure.
Hopefully you all are looking forward to next year's competition as much as I am... we promise that it will be bigger and better then ever before!

And only two remain...

So here is the last score update before the NCAA Championship tonight! As I mentioned yesterday, there are only two players left that are able to take home the top prize... Will S. and Larry F and it comes down to who wins tonight!

Heading into the Championship...

I will update the most recent scores tomorrow morning, but the overall bracket championship has come down to Will S. and Larry F.

If North Carolina wins tomorrow, Larry F. takes home the top prize... but if Michigan State pulls off the upset Will S. will be crowned champion!

People should come to Danny O's house tomorrow to watch the national championship and receive their respective awards!

GM and Kentucky

I found this interesting article on the similarities between Bailout stricken General Motors and the University of Kentucky... you should check it out!

Calipari to Kentucky?

The Final Four is set and Will S has taken the lead after picking 3 of the 4 teams to advance to the NCAA semi-final.

Tonight is the drama filled first game of College Basketball Invitational championship best-of-three series! Oregon State takes on UTEP!!!

Tomorrow night we have the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament championship matchup between Bradley and Old Dominion as well as the NIT Final Four!

Who Do You Think...

Will be the next coach of the University of Kentucky?

... leave a comment

Will Sean Miller be the next coach of Kentucky?

Will S. and Matt VD have made a surge to the 2nd and 3rd spots, respectively, thanks to the Big East flexing it's collective muscle and once again proving it is the premier NCAA Division 1 basketball conference by advancing three teams into the Elite 8 on the first night of Sweet 16 competition.

Also it appears as if Will S. has effectively wrapped up the CIT section of the bracket as both Matt VD and Will S both have Bradley winning the championship, thus making it impossible for anyone to overtake Will.

Cara VD continues to hold onto first, thanks to the upset of Missouri over Memphis and she has unofficially won the CBI section of the bracket as there is no possibility of anyone overtaking her in this catagory. I think someone may be in competition with Matt H. for the title of "Savant of March Madness".

And Danny O continues to bring up the rear with all those who only filled out one bracket... or Brent...

I hope everyone is ready for the rest of the Sweet 16 action tonight!!!!

Will Billy Gellespie have a job next week?

With a strong showing in the NIT (picking 3 of the 4 semi final teams), Eric VD has moved into third place overall and first place in the NIT bracket. In a strategy only known to him, Eric picked the Stanford and Oregon St. to meet in the finals of the CBI... but unfortunetly the showdown happened one round early with Oregon St marching on to face UTEP in the CBI championship!

Cara VD is still the front runner in the overall competition and has all but locked up the CBI section of the competition.

Will S and Matt VD have pulled ahead in the CIT competition as they were the only two to pick any correct teams in the final... Go Bradley!!!

Kyle Maloney currently leads the NCAA competition... but who knows what will happpen tonight with the Sweet 16 matchups!!!

Cara takes the Lead!

Last night Penn State and Baylor placed themselves into the NIT semi finals and Cara made the leap to first place in our bracket challenge by the strength of her CBI bracket... but will this be enough too sustain her through the NCAA Sweet 16?

Score Update 5

There was some NIT/CBI/CIT action last night... the standing didn't change much. Matt H. is still leading.

Monday, March 23, 2009

After the Second Round...

At the conclusion of the second round, our defending champion, Matt H., has taken the lead. Cara holds on to second with Chris K and Eric VD tied for third.
Kyle M. is our current leader in the NCAA bracket with 52 points out of a possible 64 and several people are tied for the lead in the the remaining three brackets.
I hope everyone is ready for some crazy NIT, CBI, CIT action tonight!

USC vs BC

2nd Half

12:45 Just started watching USC and BC on my computer while watching Xavier on Dan-O's big screen tv... picture quality on my computer is not that great, but it looks as if USC just took the lead on a 5 foot jumper

10:48 USC goes up by 6 on two Dwight Lewis free throws

7:17 USC goes up by 9 on a DeMar Rosen tip shot 56-47, USC

5:36 James is grumpy

4:17 Rakim Sanders made free through brings BC within 11... 62-51, USC

3:55 Dwight Sanders scores 2 point layup 64-51, USC

2:27 Steph didn't answer her phone in time... it went to voicemail

1:21 Daniel Hacket made free throws 67-53, USC

1:08 Josh Southern made a layup 67-55, USC

0:00 USC wins 72-55

Xavier vs Portland St

14:00 Xavier is winning. BOOOOOOOO!!!!

12:44 DOMINGUEZ FOR TRES!!!!!!

12:41 Dominguez sits with two fouls.

11:58 The Vikings are making it a game. Xavier is up 19-14.

10:44 Xavier misses a wide open 3. And Louisville is losing by 2.

10:08 CJ Anderson mistakes this for a leapfrog contest. Portland State goes to the line.

9:44 VD wants to be a dolphin.

8:47 Portland State within 2. Dare I dream?

7:41 PORTLAND STATE UP BY 1!!!!!!!!

7:02 "The statistics indicate that it's an even game, and it is." Thank you, color commentator.

2:13 That's the last time I go to the bathroom during a game. Xavier is up 40-29.

1:02 Dominguez is 5'6"? Hill decides he could play for Portland State.

Halftime Xavier is up 42-35. In more pressing matters, VD now has liveblogging priveleges, so beware.

Halftime Note to self: Hill would not flash his nachos for nachos.

Early Leaders have success in CBI and CIT...

In the second day of NCAA competition we saw some great games... the Virginia Commonwealth nearly overcame mighty UCLA, but Eric Maynard came up short and could not repeat his magic from two seasons ago when he hit the game winner against Duke in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

Last year's NCAA darling Western Kentucky University is doing it again, knocking of 5th seeded Illinois in convincing fashion. Up next for the Hilltoppers is a date with Gonzaga, a team that was in Western Kentucky's position just a few short years ago...

Looking to this afternoon, the Boston College/USC game could be a fun matchup... and of course the great West Virginia/Dayton game will be today at 3:00, the biggest question being... will Huggy Bear have on his Colonel Mustartd outfit for the opening round matchup?

Getting to the bracket challenge...the early leaders in The Challenge, Cara and Chris, have had a strong showing in the CBI and CIT brackets. However, defending champion, Matt H, is strongly in command of third place based on his knowledge of the NIT matchups.

Pre-NCAA Score Update

I hope everyone is ready for the Madness to be kicked up a notch as the NCAA tournament kicks off today!

In the mean time... here is a quick score update from last nights games:

Chris K., in an interesting strategy, picked both Rider and Liberty, costing him the opportunity to further extend his lead.

Eric B., after expressing doubt in his NIT bracket and confidence in his CIT bracket, picked a pool-high 14/16 correct in the first round of the NIT, but is working on a scoreless CIT pending tonight's Citadel/Old Dominion matchup.

Score Update

After the first day of competition, Larry F. is our current leader after his strong showing in the NIT and CBI brackets. He is closely followed by Cara who, being a life long Liberty fan, was poised to surge ahead of the pack to grab second place with her intense CIT bracket.

Our defending champion, Matt H, is currently wrapped up in a four-way tie for third place.

CBI and CIT Brackets

Some of you may have noticed that the CBI and CIT brackets did not have the drop down menus like the NCAA and NIT brackets. This is because the reseeding in the later rounds of the CBI and CIT make it impossible to know the exact matchups.

So in the brackets that are lacking the drop down option, you will effectively be just be picking which teams you think will advance. You can do this by typing the name of the teams to advance on the next set of lines, in no particular order.

If you would like more information on the reseeding click on the links on the right to the College Basketball Invitational and the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

Welcome

The Madness is about to begin, so get those brackets filled out and returned so that you don't miss out!

Hopefully we will have some blog updates for the games beginning tomorrow!
